Memorable museum exhibits of 2010

Looking back on exhibits I visited in 2010, there are a few that really made lasting impressions. Cezanne and American Modernism at the Baltimore Museum of Art showed Cezanne's paintings side by side with American artists. I especially enjoyed seeing the similarities of Oscar Bluemner and Max Weber to some of Cezanne's works. I also noticed similarity between Bluemner and Weber in that they each integrate the human figure into the landscape. In June Night, Backyard, Bluemner's tree takes the form of a female figure. In Weber's Summer, the figures appear as part of the landscape. Seeing these artists in the same exhibit gave me some new ideas about the meaning of "the figure in the landscape."
