Washington Project for the Arts 2011 Auction

I found many interesting works on view, and hearing the curators talk about their selections for this year's WPA auction (to be held Saturday, March 12) provided some additional insights into the pieces. I enjoyed the wide range of unusual media--from woodcut print to wood sculpture, from oil and mixed media painting to sumi ink with acrylic to ink with hand stitched thread, from collage with etching and acrylic to acrylic with photos and latex. The unfinished space donated by the Akridge Property at 700 Sixth Street, NW, makes a perfectly understated gallery setting for the variety of art on display. This fundraiser provides the operating budget for the WPA to support regional artists throughout the year. All selections are on view for the public from 11am-6pm, Wednesday-Saturday until auction day and can also be seen at the WPA website http://www.wpadc.org/ Take a look!
